Final Fantasy Type-0

Image
Final Fantasy Type-0 has been a surprise on both sides of the coin. On one hand, it's rated M for Mature making it brutal and littered with death and blood splatters. We lose story characters and the narrative feels like it has consequence. On the other hand, there's a ton of start-up exposition and a lot of vocabulary that the player is somehow expected to know or put together quickly. Then again, the narrative that encompasses it all is at the very least intriguing although there's a lot of boring politics to sift through before the player gets to bite into some meat.

This game appears to take place in the Final Fantasy 13 universe because of some unique common phrasing and words used - one such flag being the term "L'Cie." After a bit of research, I found out they are in a way idealistically but I couldn't find a direct link. The premise is a militant group of students under the command of the powers that be are super powerful and are faced with a chal…

Harley Quinn Story Pack

Image
The Harley Quinn Story Pack is an Arkham Episode for Batman: Arkham Knight. It follows Harley Quinn as she breaks into the Blüdhaven Police Department to rescue Poison Ivy. The story lets you play as Harley Quinn both in the pack  itself and in AR challenges, and comes with the Classic Harley Quinn Skin. It was initially released with pre-orders of Batman: Arkham Knight, but became available with the Seasons Pass in July 2015, and for separate purchase in August 2015. This is the first time in the series that the player was able to play as Harley Quinn.

Taking place before the events of Batman: Arkham Knight, Harley Quinn breaks into the overgrown Blüdhaven Police Department to recruit Poison Ivy as part of Scarecrow's plan to kill Batman. She searches around the building with the Penguin's help to find out the location of Ivy's cell. After taking out numerous officers, she finds a computer with security camera footage and learns that Ivy is in the basement. Harley …

No Man's Sky Will Cost $60
Sony teased that No Many's Sky will be available for pre-order from the North American PlayStation Store starting Thursday - and the game will cost $59.99. Full price. The game looks as if it will be large, but the team's size is small and most of the game was generated procedurally - meaning aside form core systems, the developers didn't actually do much work. The game hasn't been announced for a physical release, but given the hype [consumers are funny - Bryan] it will now likely see store shelves.

Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin

Image
Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin is so much more than "Dark Souls 2: Remastered," or "Dark Souls 2: Definitive Edition." From Software didn't just slap the DLC along with the main game on the disc and ship it out - they changed the base game enough to shake up most everything I thought I knew. It would make this review 10 times longer to go over all of the changes, and quite frankly I'm not sure I've encountered every change even after 100 hours on my main character. If you take one thing away after reading this, make sure it's that Scholar of the First Sin is the Dark Souls 2 experience to have. Below the review I'll put every change in a spoiler-free list.

The premise is the same as Dark Souls, and the original Dark Souls 2. You're a chosen undead, and it's your job to kill huge and grotesque monsters. The lore of the Souls universe could fill up a novel, but I'll try to summarize a few things here. Basically, you need to fin…

Batgirl: A Matter of Family

Image
Batgirl: A Matter of Family is an Arkham Episode from Batman: Arkham Knight, and a prequel story that took place years before Batman: Arkham Asylum, in which Barbara Gordon suited up and teamed up with Robin to save her father, Commissioner Gordon from the Seagate Amusement Park, who had been kidnapped by the Joker and Harley Quinn. It was released for Season Pass owners and the general public in July of 2015. Getting the DLC unlocks Batgirl for all of the Challenge Maps in Arkham Knight. While I did have fun with A Matter of Family, it's hardly the fulfilling DLC we were originally promised.

The main draw to this expansion for me was the ability to play as Batgirl, especially seeing what happens to Barbara during the events of the base game (I won't say because it's a fairly substantial spoiler). Her combat is lighter than Batman's yet maintains roughly the same amount of oomph, and her utility belt is a watered down version of the Dark Knight's albeit with s…

The Outer Rim will contain three new maps: Sullust's industrial factories, Jabba's throne room, and a Tatooine sail barge garage. Castle Crashers

Image
Castle Crashers is everything a younger me would have loved, and it also something that I, in my current state appreciate a lot. It's a lewd 2D side-scrolling beat-'em-up role-playing game featuring four knights' quest to save the princesses of the kingdom. It's developed by The Behemoth and published for the Xbox 360 and PC from Microsoft Game Studios. It was later ported to PlayStation 3 with the help of Sony Computer Entertainment, and given the remastered treatment for the Xbox One but I've never played those iterations. To wrap up this introduction, every time the subject of Castle Crashers came up (or its younger brother, Battleblock Theater), one of my friends would always yell "Poop humor!" - and to his credit, there's plenty of it in the game to merit that response.

Set in a clearly fictional medieval universe, the game starts with four knights at a king's party, during which a dark wizard steals a powerful crystal and four princesses. Th…

Pandaren Premium Tempered Glass for PS Vita

Image
After having used ZAGG Glass for my smart phone for years, I immediately took to my preferred online retailer to order a tempered glass screen protector for my PlayStation Vita Slim. It's an interesting note that something I paid 40 dollars for almost two years ago now only costs 10 dollars if you're willing to stray from the name brand (referring to tempered glass screen protectors in general). I'm happy to report that Pandaren has now potentially become one of my future go-to's for such a product.

Basically, Tempered glass has an anti-fingerprint oil coating on top to reduce what shows up on your screen. It also mostly features high sensitivity touch, and this particular brand is "ultra clear" which means it has a 93-percent transparency rating, and is "ultra thin" meaning it's only 0.3mm thick. Round edges on screen protectors is hardly a differentiating factor at this point, but Pandaren Premium meets the expectation regardless. The big sel…

Persona 4: Dancing All Night

Image
The Persona 4 gang has been busy during the past few years. Starring in multiple fighting games, an old-school dungeon crawler, and now a dancing game - they don't get much rest. Persona 4: Dancing All Night is a rhythm game for the PlayStation Vita developed by Atlus and Dingo Inc. The soundtrack is primarily made up of remixes from games of the Persona series like Persona 3 Portable, Persona Q: Shadow of Labyrinth, and Persona 4 Golden and features the cast from Persona 4. There's also a lot of freebies on the PlayStation Network for the game including costumes, songs, and accessories.

The story takes place six months after the events of the epilogue of Persona 4 Golden. Rumors akin to the Midnight Channel are circulating where if you watch a video on a certain site at midnight you are transported to "the other side" and never come back. A popular Japanese girl group called Kanamin Kitchen are disappearing one-by-one because of this phenomenon, later dubbed the &q…
